Inhospitable lands

Bull Elk

$4.00 — $30.00

Frozen landscapes stretch in all directions across these pristine mountaintops. Deep canyons and now still rivers, lie dormant awaiting spring thaws and warmer days. The quaking aspens with the once bright foliage of fall, now stand naked and buried in white drifts… Sentinels over a cold and inhospitable land.
Fog shrouded valleys, combined with deep snow and freezing temperatures, would be an unbearable place for us humans to spend the coldest months of the year.
Crystalline air bites at your exposed skin, while the high altitude steals the breath from your lungs.
Yet, on a high lonesome ridge line; windswept and far removed from the wildflower covered slopes that they will become in May; several old warriors lay like shadows against the cold grey morning skyline. The fall rut and lazy days of summer a distant memory for these battle scarred veterans.
For those with the ability to survive the cold, wolves, and hunger, there is hope in the coming Chinook winds. These old warriors lay unmolested in their winter beds, confident in their strength, stamina and proven ability to survive. Each sunset brings them closer to the warm spring winds, and easier times.
Wolves prowl the late winter days and nights in search of the weak and slow that would fall easily under their relentless onslaughts. All that will remain of those that succumb to natures wrath, are bleached antlers, bare bones and hollow skulls to announce that a warrior once stood proud upon these high lands.
