Option number on comes from the sky~
This beautiful red tail Hawk was a bit unhappy with me as he cast a final piercing glance back over his shoulder to make sure I understood that he did not appreciate my interrupting his snack time.

Option number 2 comes from the water
and this reptile unlike the hawk above was more than happy that I had come along, and let it be known that I was welcome for dinner any time
I have seen a few different alligators since we got to south Texas.. love the personality that they each are so full of.. Pretty amazing creatures indeed.

It’s Wyoming Wednesday already!
And it’s almost August.. time for me to get to work on the Free August Desktop calendars~
Back in the land of internet connections…spent the weekend in the swamps.. and bayous… they are a whole different world..thick and seemingly inpenetrable, but full of live. We saw deer, turkey, several species of lizards, spiders, alligator, birds, birds and more birds, bugs and one very unhappy little snake on a trail through the woods just after dark. Saw sign and scat from wild dogs and raccoon… And as mother Nature does so often, she surprised me with a changing landscape around every turn.. from flat grassy swamp lands.. to tall towering oaks that opened up to a beautiful ocean view.. we had a fantastic time playing in this new land.. could of done with fewer mosquitoes, but they too are a part of life in the bayous.. I am still waiting for the opportunity to photograph an armadillo, wild pigs and javelina. But for today.. I wanted to share with you some alligator photos that I was able to capture.. got to hear one hiss, and even growl.. an amazing and intimidating sound from such a large lizzard.. saw a baby sitting in a small pond next to the road, and watched another swim across a lake, just to come see what we were doing…. my guess is this one has been feed by people and will end up being a danger at some point, as he swam right past a flock of new baby ducks to get to us.. once he/she realized that we weren’t going to give it anything it went away.. only to return a few minutes later when another family came down the trail…
~Wyoming Wednesday~
Remembering cool mountain breezes and wide open spaces.
There is no place like home~

For those of you who expressed concern.. Yesterday I was finally able to get my photo archives transferred to a new external drive~ so all is good…. My advice to anyone who has a bunch of photos stored on their computer is to keep a backup of all your things on an external hard drive.. then go get a second one, and use it to mirror the information on the first one.. put it away and just back up any new information once a month or so.. My old hard drive wasn’t even half full.. but it was over heating and wouldn’t let me access the files long enough to get them off of it.. I strapped it to the air conditioner and finally finished about 4:00 last night. Will be getting a backup drive ASAP..
Now on to my little friend.. I like to think of him as my own little Geico lizard, who can save me ton of money, but alas it is actually a Green Anole ~ also known as the American Chameleon.. they can change their color from brown to this bright green.. this little guy was a male, and I know that because he was flashing his “dewlap” at me..
a dewlap (thank you google) is a flap of skin under his chin, in this case it was a pretty pinkish orange color.. not sure if he was flashing me as a sign of territorial dominance or if he was courting me, but in any case.. I thought he was pretty cool..
Posting a photo from home today.. I have been neglecting my web page for the last week.. and I apologize, I have been working on a new project.. I am going to be doing some video editing from Elk season last Fall.. and in the process of setting up my computer to get ready… I discovered that the external hard drive I have been saving all my photos to for the last 2 1/2 years is dying a slow and painful( for me) death. I have spent the last 3 days trying to copy them off of the drive and on to a new one.. but it is not working well.. So keep your fingers and toes crossed and I will continue to plug away ..
Another bird that is common down here in Texas.. but not a stranger to Wyoming either.. I have seen them often fishing in a pond outside of Powell..
Interesting fact about the cormorant ~ For nearly 1300 yrs they have been used in China, Japan, and Macedonia for fishing.. fishermen would capture and train the birds to return to them.. then they would tie a small noose around their necks so they could not swallow large fish(only little ones) .. Cormorants are exceptional at fishing.. so when the tried to eat a large fish and it would get “stuck in their throat” so to speak.. they will return to the fisher”men” in the boats who would remove the large fish..This practice is still used in some of the small villages in these countries though not nearly as popular as it once was..
