When you were born, you cried ~and the world rejoiced.

Live your life so that when you die,

the world cries and you rejoice. ~White Elk

…..And while I stood there, I saw more than I can tell….

……And understood more than I saw;

For I was seeing in a sacred manner……….

A whirlwind of controversy surrounds the wild mustang herds here in the Western U.S. The BLM is claiming that the herds are over populated and starving and rounding them up for slaughter.. Yet there are still cattle leases being put out on most of the wild horse ranges.. I have personally watched and photographed our local herds over the last few years.. and Hawk and I have several horses, that were adopted from or are descended from, the Mustangs in our area. Check out the headlines.. search Google.. learn about these majestic, to some, vermin to others, symbols of our American West.. Educate yourself and weigh in…
As a resident of the Western US.. I am confused as to why our government would want to wipe out the Wild Mustangs, yet they still allow the wolf to go unchecked here In Wyoming, putting our elk, moose, deer and bison herds at risk.. I believe there has to be management on all parts.. but it is also time that this management of our wildlife stops being about the all mighty dollar, and starts being about conservation and what is best for ALL of our wild animals..As a wildlife photographer, conservationist and hunter.. it is my duty, as it is yours to stand up for our wild heritage..

Meet Ditchy~
Ditch is not a duck dog, but he does not know that.. Ditch is a 12 year old Australian Shepherd.. and as you can tell in the photos below, not the brightest bulb in the bucket..but Ditch is a very dedicated dog who LOVES duck and goose Hunting, and hates bears..

Ditch takes his job as head water fowl retriever very seriously, therefore we have been unable to train our other dogs to retrieve ducks and geese.. they belong to him! He is the king… he is “Ditchy~ the Duck Dog!”, and it is his job to protect his master at all costs and keep any other, younger (more capable) dogs from touching his ducks..

My post to day is a kind of introduction, but also my way or apologizing, if you will, and explaining to any of you who may be any were within 50 miles of us when we are hunting Ducks..If we go ~ Well it is just a given.. Ditch HAS to come.. I mean, we could be taken down by some rouge water foul, and how would we ever protect ourselves without Ditchy.?.Ditch is almost (not quite) deaf..and he uses this to his advantage, by playing dumb (ok, so maybe he isn’t playing) but If you happen to hear a gun shot, and then someone standing on the edge of the river yelling at the top of their lungs.. DITCH~ COME! DITCH! COME!… THAT’S IT GOOD BOY.. COME HERE..DDDIIITTTCCCHHH!!!!
Well that would be because we missed, and well, Ditchy the duck Dog does not understand that.. in his brain there is no excuse for missing and it is his job to bring the birds back.. but because he can no longer hear, he has no clue and ..He is running around.. with the above look on his face.. waiting for the Duck(goose) to fall from the sky, so HE can bring it back……
I know, I know… maybe we should retire him..(put him out of our misery?) But we can’t..because..its simple… he IS….”Ditchy~ The Duck Dog”
and besides.. we are having fun.. and THAT, after all, is what it’s all about…
