After hours of trying to capture a good photo of a pheasant in the snow, I learned the valuble lesson that anyone who has ever persued these fast flying, fast running birds already knows. They just don’t stand there and pose.
Although this is not how I invisioned the perfect shot,
Catching the irredescent colors of this cock pheasant in motion against a simple winter background turned out to be my favorite thus far.

THIS BIRD (SMALL AND , FAST FLYING).THIS PHOTO ,TO ME PROVES THAT NO MATTER HOW SMALL YOU ARE IN THIS WORLD , YOU CAN BE GREAT I THE EYES OF THE RIGHT PERSON.
I’ve seen that view so many times in the past Stacey… not even concidered trying to get a picture… excellent shot
Those colors are beautiful!
Stacey: What a wonderful capture of a beautiful bird.
Great capture Stacey. I love it when you think you are never going to get the perfect shot and then a miracle happens!!
I learned long ago about pheasants when we hunted them for Sunday dinner.
They will run ahead of you especially along the edge of fences. It is usually hard to get them to fly.
This is an excellent photo.
A beauty – well exposed, too! Well – we can’t have it all – all the time!
Cheers, Klaus!
That shot makes me feel nice and cool. Thanks!
Very nice Stacey, I like it. Pappy
I see why you like this photo. Very nice.
That is defentely a great shot. I love bird butt
It IS ia great shot. The color and the detail on the wings is wonderful. And the snow and dead grass make a nice background. (Hope you weren’t numb after waiting so long in the winter.)
I agree – it may not have been what you intended, but it sure turned out awesome! Love these birds – it’s sad to have seen their decline in our area from the recent coyote explosion around here.
Amazing hearing that you spend hours getting a shot — I’d never make it as a wildlife photog because I just don’t have that much patience — and standing in the snow would be totally out of the question — brrrr…
Fantastic capture! I love how you can see the splayed out feathers at the wing tips.

Beautiful! And I like the perspective. We have pheasants here in CT. Long before I decided photography was something I love, tho. I’ve only seen two in all the years we’ve lived here. One flew out of my garage one winter and nearly scared me to death, and the other on the local golf course, pretending her wing was broken. Bet there were babies nearby!
Your photos are always amazing! Hope to be half as good as you some day.
I think its my favorite too. I love the contrasts of the gold of the ground cover, the white of the snow and the Phesants’ determined escape. Beautiful and well done.
They are beautiful birds (and quick)! Every time I see a pheasant I think of my Dad because he had a tie that had pheasants on it. I can still close my eyes and see that tie even though it was 50 years ago….
Just a gorgeous shot w/ its wings spread perfectly.
