Marking your Territory
In this world we live in, we as humans often find ourselves with the false belief that we are so far advanced we don’t show animal behaviors. Have you ever watched a group of teenagers come together in public? I have always said that they remind me of a pack of dogs, with the girls posturing and flirting and the boys strutting around chest puffed out trying to vie for dominance amongst their peers, and gain attention from the girls. Can be quite humorous if it isn’t your kid in the group.
Take for instance the mother or teacher in charge of a group of excited little kids that are in a large group of people or crossing the road. I recently observed many mother hens trying to keep her young safe at the local fair..
Now I know that most of the men out there think that “they” don’t behave like animals, but be honest. How do you behave when that first young man comes to you door to take your little girl out on her first date?I have also observed many MEN quietly yet vigilantly watch over their families, homes, jobs, even vehicles ready to defend and protect them from any sign of danger. Still not convinced??Lets say your family has been away from home and as you pull into your driveway you notice strange tire tracks. I can guarantee you that this will immediately invoke the most primal behavior of all “marking your territory.” LOL
OK, so maybe I spend too much time watching animals, but next time you are trapped in the grocery story line, at a stop light, or in any crowd of people, make the best of it, there are so many similarities in “people and animals” behavior. It is quite funny and eye opening to see just how “advanced” we as humans are.

I’d say you hit the nail on the head!
I dont know about you but I always poop on something to make sure everyone knows its mine. It works too people are less likely to take your stuff after you poop on it.
How very true. And I agree it is so fun to people/animal watch. I’m bad about people watching, I tend to be distracted from what I am supposed to be doing because I am so involved in watching others around me.
Ha! You have a point there!
Hey christy on #3 – that was MY spot!
Grrrrr!
Cheers, Klaus
Great post. I totally agree.
I like the photo.

Lol!
Amen, I say. I often think of how behaviorally animalistic we are.I have a giggle or two when I see it happening. I mean, let’s mark our territory… We who have evolved into what? Animals who can think that we are not animals, lol.
No, you can never spend too much time watching animals. How else could you bring us these wonderful photos?
I 100% agree with you!
What I was going to say went right out of my head after I read Suzie’s comment! SO funny!!!
*L* You don’t need to convince me! When my girls were little, believe me – NOBODY got between me and my babies! Mama Bear don’t play that!
A.
You do really nice work everyday on your blog, but I think this is one of your most entertaining commentaries yet. Nice photograph and very astute observations. Pappy
Ha Ha Stacey…so very true!!!
Well, once again you have made my day…
My Kitty knows all about this sort of stuff…
She’s already “b’een out doing her “b”usiness this morning — now she is asleep on my lap, making typing as difficult as possible…
“B”est regards, Don.
Stacey: It is wonderful the way people and nature merge.
I love it! And it’s so very true! Here’s another: someone shows up at your door to sell you something – ever watch a buck wanting to breed a doe that just plain ain’t ready? Doe just keeps trying to shut the door, and the buck just keeps trying to show how awesome he is.
Alright so it wasn’t as good as yours, but it sounded good in my head, it just didn’t come out on the keyboard quite right!
Anyways – I enjoyed your comparisons…I’ll work on mine.
Nice picture of an old warrior mrs. huston really nice picture
Hi dear Stacey, I’ve missed being here. Cracking my rib really slowed me down and I am sooooo far behind but I wanted to stop in and say hi.
I loved this post. I laughed out loud over parts of it. I have thought ALL this so many times. After living years in the wild, when I came back into society I saw humans as what they are….animals…and as you know, I don’t mean that in a negative context because I don’t see animal behavior in a negative light….but I can’t always say the same for humans….ANYWAY, I found it comical (just like you) because so many times I saw and still see the posturing between sexes and ages groups in various situations. I find it fascinating!!!
Also I don’t think that it’s ONLY because you or I spend a lot of time in the wild around wildlife that we see this….I think that makes us more aware of it…but I also think it REALLY is like this with humans. It’s just that as a collective most humans don’t even see themselves as animals. LOL If not animals…what are we? Machines?? LOL LOL
Great post and love the photos…went back and looked at a lot of them: I especially loved the hummingbird in flight, the wild horse and the foxes. So so so beautiful…Oh you are talented Stacey. Hugs, Robin
Exactly right. I especially find the teenagers amusing. There are a group of them that hang out at the house next door. The girls watch the boys play basketball. It’s hilarious! (I try to remember myself in a way very much unlike that. Don’t know how accurate that memory is.)
